Nicholson NFT series traps are cast iron body with all stainless steel interiors. Integral strainer and bi-metal thermostatic air vent. Inlet to outlet piping is hoizontal inline. This trap is what is referred to as a "free float" steam trap because it uses no float mechanisim to hinge on. Operation: On startup the thermostatic air vent is open allowing air to flow through its vent valve orifice. When condensate flows into the trap the float rises allowing the condensate to discharge. Once air is evacuated, hot condensate will expand the bi-metal air vent causing it to close. Condensate will continue to discharge through the float orifice until its totally relieved and steam enters the trap. As the condensate lowers, the float drops to variably seal off the float orifice to contain the steam.
