Hoffman Specialty float and thermostatic (F&T) steam traps are available in a wide variety of sizes and pressure ranges. F&T traps feature separate orifices for condensate and air, which provide continuous condensate drainage and air venting even under conditions of zero pressure. A level connects the ball float to the valve and seat. Once condensate reaches a certain level in the trap, the float rises, opening the orifice and draining condensate. A water seal formed by the condensate prevents live steam loss. Since the discharge valve is under water, it is not capable of venting air and non-condensables. When the accumulation of air and con-condensable gases causes a significant temperature drop, a thermostatic air vent in the top of the trap discharges them. Hoffman Specialty F&T traps are rugged straight-through piping traps meant for low-pressure steam heating applications. The traps are also often used to replace low-pressure bucket traps. All internal parts are stainless steel for long-lasting durability.
Hoffman Specialty inverted bucket traps efficiently drain condensate from industrial process and HVAC equipment. Inverted bucket traps rely on the density difference between steam and water to drain condensate as it forms. An inverted bucket floats in condensate that surrounds the bucket, as the bucket moves up and down in the condensate, a linkage connected to the bucket closes or opens a discharge valve trapping the condensate or allowing it to escape. Hoffman Specialty inverted bucket traps are available in pipe sizes from 1/2" to 1-1/2".
Hoffman Specialty radiator traps reduce start-up times and improve overall efficiency. These radiator traps are small, simple in construction, and have the capacity for various applications, including in low-pressure heating systems. Balanced pressure radiator traps use a special bellows diaphragm. The diaphragm is designed to open in response to pressure and temperature to discharge air and condensate, and to close against passage of steam. The temperature at which a radiator trap opens varies.
