The Nicholson NOVA "free-floating" float and thermostatic (F&T) steam trap, model NFT250, features a 1/2" trap connection in an in-line horizontal configuration. This pattern allows steam to enter from one side of the trap, and the condensate to discharge from the opposite side of the trap. The "free-floating" design indicates no there is no mechanism assembly attached to the float. On startup the thermostatic air vent is opened, letting air flow through its vent valve orifice. When condensate flows into the trap, the float rises allowing the condensate to discharge. Once air is evacuated, hot condensate will expand the bi-metal air vent causing it to close. Condensate will then continue to discharge through the float orifice until it's totally relieved and steam enters the trap. As the condensate lowers, the float drops to variably seal off the float orifice to contain the steam. The NFT250 is cast iron with an all stainless steel interior and has a 50 psi maximum operating pressure. This trap has a capacity for 1,400 pounds per hour.
